As a Oregon Family photographer it’s our job to help make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible! Here’s a comprehensive checklist that will walk you through every step of the portrait process to help you feel prepared for your session.

THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOUR SESSION:
Plan your outfits at least a two week in advance—don’t wait until the last day, trust me! You want to wake up feeling relaxed and prepared, so plan these details out early. Feel free to text me photos of your wardrobe if you’re having a hard time choosing! I’m happy to help.

Prepare your kids (and partner!) I always recommend giving a heads-up or telling them you are doing something fun! Families have shared that this tip is especially helpful if they have a particularly shy child. And of course, make sure everyone gets a great night’s sleep and eats!

HOW TO DRESS FOR YOUR SESSION:
Dress for the weather!

Don’t wear matching clothes— Instead, wear colors in a complementary color palette, such as earth tones and neutrals. I do have a full outfit guide with color options also! Be careful about undergarments.

Movement in clothing! I absolutely love flowy dresses or skirts as they adds an element of movement to your photos.

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you can move in.

We all love accessories! Bowties, suspenders, hats, flower headbands, chunky scarves, beautiful flowing dresses, and skirts

Reminder to take bulky items out of pockets like phones and car keys out of their pockets before we start snapping photos.

WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR PHOTO SESSION:
Any personal touch-up items <3

Snacks, snacks, and more snacks, and if necessary, treat to bribe kiddos with! Also, make sure the snacks/treats won’t stain lips or fingers!

Walkable shoes. We will probably be walking short/moderate distances, possibly with hills. Walkable shoes are a must! If you just love your wedges, bring them to change into before we start photos!

A change of clothes for the kiddos, in case anyone gets muddy or dirty. As a photographer I absolutely love for kids to be in there element but with that being said it’s nice to have a warm dry set of clothing if needed.

HOW TO POSE DURING YOUR PHOTO SESSION:
No ‘Cheese’ photos! Movement and natural interactions are the most important part.

Laugh, play, tickle, and snuggle. This is family time so have fun!

Not everyone has to be looking at the camera. Actually, I usually encourage everyone to look at each other and have fun! If you would like one “smile at the camera photo” please let me know.

Relax, slow down, and don’t force anything. Don’t feel pressured to make everything perfect! Just be present with your family and I’ll do the rest. Be in the moment with your family and use this as the time to just spend with them.

Expect me to move you around to different spots to capture images. The more variety we get, the bigger your gallery!

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR PHOTO SESSION:
After your session, your work is almost done!

Your gallery is typically ready within 4-5 weeks of your session.

Look online for ideas about wall gallery displays. There are tons of beautiful ideas for every style and budget! I absolutely love to see prints displayed in your home!

Last step to complete your portrait experience: ENJOY YOUR PHOTOS! I can’t wait to help you create something beautiful, timeless, and meaningful!

And that’s it! The complete checklist for guiding you through your family photography session <3
