SHOULD YOU DO ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS?

If you’re contemplating not getting engagement photos taken, know that it’s highly recommended. This session gives the client and the photographer an opportunity to work together. While getting to know your photographer, engagement photos are also a perfect keepsake. It allows you to get the vibe of how your wedding day portraits will go and start to feel more comfortable being in front or the camera I love getting to meet and capture my wedding clients through engagement photos….

Here is Five reasons I think engagement sessions are amazing;

1. YOU’LL GET COMFORTABLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA.
Does anyone else get uncomfortable when there is a camera? If I’m being completely honest, I definitely say YES to this(even as a photographer). When you have an engagement session, you’re allowing yourself some time to get comfortable having a photographer follow you around. If you’ve never had professional photos done, especially of you & your fiancé, this is the perfect time to do them before your wedding day.
2. YOU’LL GET TO KNOW YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER BETTER.
I might be a little biased here, but doing an engagement session helps you get to know your photographer better! And when you know your photographer, it will feel more like a friend on your wedding day (rather than someone you just met). Your wedding day can be over welling so the last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable with a camera on you. I also really love how couples can get a sense of the photographer’s style when they do an engagement session! It’s one thing to see a photographer’s photos of a bunch of random people, but when you see yourself in their images it allows you to fully trust and open up.

I typically will use a few of the same prompts for couple portraits that I use during engagement sessions, so this is a time to practice!

3. YOU GET EXTRA PHOTOS!
Engagement sessions are an opportunity to get more casual photos of you & your fiancé that aren’t in your wedding attire. It’s always nice to have photos in more “normal” clothes, whatever that means for you! You get to truly be yourself and have those moments captured.

4. YOU CAN MAKE IT WILD & ADVENTUROUS!
An engagement session can be as ADVENTUROUS as you want it to be!! I’m not saying that your wedding can’t be adventurous too, but sometimes it’s more fun to do crazy photos when you’re not pushed for time on your wedding day!

5. TIME TO RELAX
During the planning time of your wedding, I always recommend couples to not forget about taking time for yourself. I know it’s a lot of stress to plan a wedding and so many details to figure out buttttt you have to remember to go on dates, spend time with your love and take breaks when you need them. I know that just sitting around can feel unproductive sooo engagement photos can be a time to slow down and be with your person.

If you are looking for an engagement photographer, I would absolutely LOVE to chat more!
